Hide columns on New Item form in a list

I know from looking at some of the downloadable templates from MS that it is possible to create a form view that allows users to fill out on ly those fields that the admins want them to see, then allows the technicians to complete the form with relevent infomration.  I have not figured out how to replicate this with a new list.

We have a computer lab that has 18 seats.  Each seat has 2-4 computers connected using a KVM switch.  I need to create a request form that allows users to access the form to request lab time.  On their form, they should be able to provide only the following:

    • Name
    • Phone Extension
    • Application being tested
    • Number of client PCs requested
    • Test Start Date
    • Test End Date
    • Detailed Client Requirements

Once a technician is notified of the new request, he/she needs to be able to edit the item to add:

    • Assigned Technician
    • Assigned Seat Number(s)
    • Assigned PC name(s)
    • Assigned IP Address(es)
    • Request Status (Assigned, Completed, Closed)

Our wish list would be that we also be able to link certain PCs to certain seats (ie Seat A1 has PC1, PC2, and PC3, Seat A2 has PC4, PC5, etc).  That would allow us to choose the assigned computers based on available seats.

    Thanks,

     Steve

Hi, steventhomas, I guess that your problem is to assign different permissions to different users. In order to set permissions easily and conveniently, you can download a template from

    http://www.sharepointboost.com/permissionboost.html

You can learn more information there too.

sharepoint permission, permission, sharepoint webpart, sharepoint service, sharepoint item, item, column, sharepoint 2007
