I am new to sharepoint technology. I required few clarifications listed below. Can someone help me out ?

1. How to find out the sharepoint version that I am using now ? I tried with check in help. But unable to find out.

2. Can we setup some validation while creating the list. for example I need to setup the start and end date. If I entered 30-03-2008 12 AM to 30-03-2008 2 PM. So no one can able to select the same date and time again.

3. Can we able to setup the automated mail firing with sharepoint ? for example we have 10 items in current list. THe 3 rd option we have a check box if its clicked the mail should sent to abc@abc.com mail id .... and going down 6 is checked as Yes the mail should sned to def@def.com

.. Is it possible ?

1. You can check using windows "Add remove programs" and see major version of sharepoint (2000, 2003 or 2007) . You can also use the "Central Administration" web , to see visually which version you have. The minor version can be resolved by reviewing "Schema" version in the database.

2. Yes  you can. You can create a class that inherit from SPListItemEventReceiver and do some validation of you need. Other way is you can use WF (Windows Workflow Foundation) and setup some validation.

3. I think this is no problem with Sharepoint - but if you mean an OOTB features then I don't think you can do without help of development tools. A minimum SharePoint designer can do this.
