Check out multiple files at one time

    Hello

I am trying to use WSS3.0 for our document management.

The problem is I cannot find a way to checkout multiple files at one time. Is it able to do so? This is kind of critical for our localization team. I probable cannot persuade them to use it unless I make this feature available.

    Thank you very much!

    Ge

I'm not aware of a way to do a mass checkout like that. Are you sure they want to check them all out at once (i.e. locked for editing) and not just open them all at once? You can use explorer view to see all the documents or put a shorcut to the document library on your file server.

    Hi Ge,

It is possible to do multiple document check out.

    1. Go to Site Settings > Site Settings

    2. Under Site Administration, click on Content and Structure

    3. Browse to the Document Library on the left.

    4. Check all the documents you want to check out/in in the right pane.

    5. Click on Actions > Check Out/In

Note: Confirm the permission levels of the users that will be using this feature. I'd suggest not making it available to all users.

Re: Check out multiple files at one time

The last post (that suggested using Site Content & Structure) only applies to MOSS, so it won't work for you.

Please elaborate on the scenario in which multiple files need to be checked out (locked for editing) at one time.  There may be another approach.

If you have Office 2007 clients, they will give you the option to open for editing and to check out right away, so you could use the Explorer view to open multiple documents and that would do it for you in that scenario.

Re: Check out multiple files at one time

Yes, that worked well on MOSS.  But I have a client who needs to do multiple file uploads with minimum fuss to populate a SharePoint site.

All the methods I have tried leave the files in a checked-out state and there is no way to check them in en masse.  Or is there?

    I've tried:

    • Upload multiple docs
    • Explorer view
    • Actions | Open with Windows Explorer

The last was excellent for loading directories.  Does it work with WSS?

    Thanks in advance
