    Workflow for SharePoint

Hi, I'm Cameron McConnell, the Support Coordinator for Nintex Products.  I just thought I'd give a brief outline of one of our products, Nintex Workflow 2007.

Nintex Workflow 2007 allows business users, not just developers, to design simple to sophisticated workflows using our visual designer, right in your browser.  The workflows are designed to run within SharePoint and typically require some sort of action with SharePoint in order for them to execute.

The designer was developed to allow the dragging and dropping of workflow actions onto the design canvas where the workflow path is automatically drawn. All actions are configurable to your environment and include logic such as looping, conditional statements, reusable variables and even state machine workflows.

The workflows can be saved and published for use within the SharePoint environment. They can also be added to the site-wide Workflow Template Picker and exported for re-use in other locations.  The newer Enterprise version also includes system-wide workflow reporting, BizTalk interaction and Active Directory provisioning.

Obviously I could go on, but that would be a little unfair in this forum. For more information please visit http://www.nintex.com/Nproducts/Workflow.aspx.  We offer hosted sites and product downloads for those that would like to try the product for themselves. If anybody has any questions or comments, I'd be happy to answer them.

    Re: Workflow for SharePoint

We are interested in how far we can get with only WSS with regard to creating workflows.  We do not have MOSS and are still on Office 2000.  Any ideas?

    Re: Workflow for SharePoint

WSS 3 only comes with one prebuilt workflow, MOSS provides 4 or 5 more. You can start creating you own workflows in SharePoint Designer 2007. There are some good demos at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointdesigner/CH102201271033.aspx

The workflows can route any kind of doc, so using Office 2000 won't be an issue. Just create a workflow, upload the file, assign it to the workflow and it will start doing whatever you want it to, assign a task, send a email etc. Won't you won't get is integration with the properties of the document (you will need a newer version of Office for this to work) but you can use the data in any columns in a document library/list to trigger workflow events.

Dean has mentioned the out of the box options regarding SharePoint and Office 2000. From the Nintex point of view, WSS 3.0 is sufficient for the full array of workflow options that we offer. MOSS is not required.

If you are using WSS 2.0, you would have to look at Nintex SmartLibrary for Workflow options. Information is also available about it on the website (www.nintex.com).
