Can we create a filter to display what's in a folder in a document Library.

I have created several folders in document library and I only want to show the content of 1 folder on a page. I use a filter but when I refresh the page the webpart starts to show all the content of the document libraby. I have tried adding a new column called catagory which displays all docs with a certain catagory. But each of my folders will have over 250 docs uploaded each months and the end user will have to put catagories to each doc with that. Right now they can just drag and drop files in the explorer view. I want an easy way for and ed user to create folders in a doc library and display info in each individual folder as they wish. Please help!!!

Create a New View for the document Library apply the filter and make this view as default view.

SharePoint is foremost a web application.  Since you can create folders in a document library, doesn't mean that it is the recommended or the preferred way!  You will gain the most of SharePoint using the column-functionality (which the file system is lacking).  Using the columns will make it possible for you to filter the information (documents) any way you want to.  You say that people will drag&drop 250 documents a month.  Are those documents created in another application?  Why not open up this doc.lib. in SharePoint and they will be able to click save and they may be prompted for to add certain column-data.  The same will happen if they open i.e. Word and connect to the doc.lib. and click save.  Having thousands of documents in a doc.lib. is not a problem.  I suggest you create different views and not have All documents as your default view.  When using views you may also decide how many documents you want to display on a page before the user having to click on next page.  Do I assume right when I say that the reason you use folders today is to categorize the documents?  In SharePoint you will use columns instead of folders.  This way you will make it easier for the users to save their documents in one library instead of figuring out which folders to put it in.  You cannot set permissions, content type nor other kind of meta-data in a folder.  Since you cannot do anything else but put documents in a folder, it will help you and the users storing or retrieving the information.

I'm just curious if anybody out there has figured out a way to filter document libraries for users who are not administrators?

I have a document library and a form the user fills out to filter the documents to just those that meet the criteria.  This works great for us admins, but for the poor average user, as soon as the code spView.Update is hit, they get Access Denied.

I've tried the old stand-by Impersonation (apparently Sharepoint is so secure that only admins can use it, unless you throw impersonation into every single web part), and even tried changing permissions on the fly.  But Impersonation doesn't work on spView.Update and the user doesn't have permission to change permissions.

Thanks to anyone that can relieve my frustration with Sharepoint!  btw I'm using Sharepoint 2003.

Oh, just email me a response at lianaent@yahoo.com.  This MSD2D site is too flaky.  It keeps prompting me to login again after which I have to retype my entire post (if I forget to save it before posting).
