SharePoint Taxonomie / Category Extension Announced

The SharePartXXL Taxonomy Extension for Microsoft SharePoint enables documents and list items in a SharePoint-based portal to be organized cross-site as part of a connected content network and knowledge model. SharePoint list items are associated by category using one or more custom taxonomies. So users can organize documents and other portal contents in the way that they think and work.

With that extension the SharePoint portal really can become a place to share knowledge as well as content.

First native 100% SharePoint-based solution for cross-site information and knowledge management in MOSS 2007 and WSS 3.0

    • Break out of the hierarchy of SharePoint sites: Navigate cross-site based on an easily browsable hierarchical directory (taxonomy) and related links based on ontologies for quick retrieval.
    • Make SharePoint ready for Web 3.0: Create a semantic layer in SharePoint for content classification and content relationship management by category tagging to better find relevant information independent of its location - typically required for intranets, media libraries, knowledge bases etc.
    • Linking is power: information about classification and related content appears as additional links in the site navigation and in the item's detail view – automatically and consistent in real-time.
    • Capture existing knowledge: Allow editors to create a map of the subjects in their domain of expertise and display these taxonomies as additional site navigations, e.g. by product groups, by services, task and process based, by target groups  or as organizational view.
    • Subscribe to category-based lists of cross-site items: RSS and email-based alerts, if items in subscribed categories changes.
    • Classify any portal content: documents, tasks, contacts, images and any other list- or library-based SharePoint items can be tagged using categories.
    • Easy to use: Taxonomy and ontology-driven classification with a simple and fast form-based user interface as part of the usual content creation and management process.
    • Immediate and consistent feedback: classification creates links between items and categories or between related items immediately in real-time.
    • Flexibility: taxonomy and ontology changes can be made quickly and easily with no impact on the running system.
    • Based on industry standards: ISO13250, Topic Maps, XML, XSLT, HTTP web services. 100% native SharePoint solution uses SharePoint API only, no direct SharePoint database access or modification, no external databases, no additional applications.
    • Years of experience: The solution was developed with the experience of the contentXXL CMS  Content Relationship Management System in mind, approved in lots of implementations. The contentXXL CMS was awarded with the Microsoft .NET Solutions Award in 2002.
    • Extensibility: The API can be used by virtually any custom categorizers to create categories automatically and assign it to items.

    • A consistent list of all items that have assigned the selected category is shown on this category-based sites with default attributes automatically
    • Cross-site views of all items of a category are provided , e.g. By Source List, By Modification, By Author, By Content Type.  Additional views and custom attributes can be easily configured using list based templates.
    • The category list can be displayed as flat A-Z index view additionally.
    • Subscriptions to category-based RSS Feeds and e-mail alerts for all new and changed items cross-site per category are provided
