Creating a SP Portal that includes database data? Start here.

    Hi All,

I wanted to create this post/thread for anyone who is looking for a way to add structured data (database data or data from web services) to their SharePoint site.  I have worked with a number of options including the BDC and stand alone web parts and would like to get input from the community on struggles and successes.

I have created a series of videos surrounding both our product and some of the overall issues associated with building a data-centric portal.  They can be found here:  http://www.nse.com/content.do?ContentId=731

If you are embarking on a new SharePoint project that requires data be integrated into your site and/or if you are currently working with the BDC (Business Data Catalog), one of the videos that may be of interest to you is the "Building a Data Centric Portal" series which contains an overview of different options and steps for building a data-centric portal.

If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to help.  I also welcome your feedback.

     Best Regards,

Michael Cox, NSE Inc.  http://www.nse.com    mike.cox At nse dawt (comm)

Commercial Product Alert:  I work for NSE.  Our product, eSENSE Visualizers offers a solution to the issue of easily creating data pages in SharePoint.  Visualizers allow you to create powerful data-centric SP sites with rich UIs (including charts) quickly and easily with zero programming and no difficult configuration steps.  Our customers have found that in many cases, having the ability to have their "old" legacy data from line of business applications appear on a SP page opens up all kinds of new opportunities for an organizations use of SP.  Our software works with our without MOSS and supports 2.0 and 3.0.
