Add comments to old versions of a document in a library

Is there a way to do it?  We have over 9k records that were migrated to a MOSS library, most of which have 2 or more versions.  The sharepoint versions mean nothing to us & we'd like to be able to add a indentifying comment to the old (& current) versions of documents.  Going forward isn't an issue - checkin comments suffice.  But is there a way to "fix" the old stuff?  I am not a coder, but I'll find one if there's a way to make this happen.
